10 Ways to Be a Better Advocate Every Day
You're already doing it. Every time you speak up, show up, or refuse to stay silent, that's advocacy. Here's how to do even more of it.
Advocacy doesn't always look like a protest or a viral post. Most of the time, it looks like a quiet, consistent choice to do the right thing even when no one is watching.
Here are 10 practical ways to show up as a better advocate every single day.
1. Listen before you speak. The most powerful thing an advocate can do is listen. Before sharing your opinion, make space for the voices of the people you're advocating for. Their experience is the most important data point in the room.
2. Educate yourself continuously. Advocacy without knowledge can do more harm than good. Read books, follow creators with lived experience, attend workshops, and stay curious. The landscape of inclusion is always evolving, so should your understanding.
3. Use inclusive language. Words matter. Learn the preferred language of the communities you support. Ask when you're unsure. And when you make a mistake, correct it and move on without making it about you.
4. Speak up in small moments. You don't need a stage. When someone makes an exclusionary joke at dinner, say something. When a meeting excludes someone's perspective, raise it. Small moments of courage add up to big cultural change.
5. Support inclusive businesses. Where you spend your money is a vote for the kind of world you want to live in. Choose brands that reflect your values, businesses that give back, hire inclusively, and stand for something beyond profit.

6. Amplify, don't overshadow. Share the work of advocates with lived experience. Repost, recommend, and refer. Your platform, however big or small, can be a megaphone for voices that deserve to be heard.
7. Show up consistently, not just in awareness months. April, October, and June awareness months are great starting points. But the communities you care about exist 365 days a year. Show up in February, too.
8. Have the uncomfortable conversations. Real advocacy requires discomfort. Talk to your family members who don't get it. Challenge the policies at your workplace. Push back on systems that weren't designed for everyone. It won't always be easy, but it will always be worth it.
9. Wear your values. Never underestimate the power of a conversation starter. When someone asks about your shirt, that's an opening.
Our Fearless Advocates collection is full of designs that spark exactly those conversations every single day.
10. Take care of yourself. Advocacy is a marathon, not a sprint. You can't pour from an empty cup. Rest, recharge, and remember that sustainable advocacy is more powerful than burned-out advocacy. The world needs more fearless advocates. And it needs them to stick around.
